Is eating raw garlic effective for relieving gastrointestinal pain?
Disease description:
I have been diagnosed with chronic gastritis and have poor gastrointestinal health. My stomach often hurts—would it be beneficial to eat a small amount of raw garlic during meals?
Gastrointestinal pain is a common symptom; however, oral consumption of raw garlic is ineffective for relieving it. In patients with gastric disorders, ingesting raw garlic may exacerbate gastric pain. For individuals with chronic gastritis, treatment should include oral medications that protect the gastric mucosa. Additionally, it is essential to avoid or limit intake of irritating foods—such as garlic, ginger, chili peppers, scallions, and alcoholic beverages—as these can worsen symptoms.
