The goosebump-like bumps commonly appearing on the arms are typically keratosis pilaris—a chronic, autosomal dominant, inherited follicular keratotic skin disorder. Topical medications constitute the mainstay of treatment for keratosis pilaris. Commonly used agents include 3%–5% salicylic acid ointment or 10%–20% urea ointment. For more extensive or severe lesions, topical retinoic acid ointment or adapalene gel may be applied. Concurrently with pharmacologic therapy, proper skin care is essential—particularly minimizing the use of alkaline cleansers and bathing products.
