How to Hydrate and Moisturize Dry Skin with Face Masks
Dry skin refers to a skin type characterized by a stratum corneum moisture content below 10%, resulting from reduced sebaceous gland secretion and impaired skin barrier function, which leads to increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Individuals with dry skin require enhanced hydration and moisturization. When selecting face masks, it is generally advisable to choose products tailored to one’s specific skin type and targeted concerns—this ensures greater efficacy. Specific recommendations are outlined below:

① Before Use
Prior to applying a face mask, individuals with dry skin should thoroughly remove makeup and cleanse the face. Exfoliation may also be performed when necessary to facilitate better absorption of the mask’s active ingredients and prevent pore clogging by dirt and dust.
② During Use
After cleansing, apply a warm, damp towel to the face for three minutes, followed by a five-minute gentle facial massage—this enhances the mask’s effectiveness. For wash-off or cream-based masks, application during bathing is recommended, as the warm, humid environment promotes deeper absorption of the mask’s nourishing components and improves hydration. Most masks begin to dry after approximately 20 minutes; using them during a shower helps avoid potential stinging or discomfort caused by drying on the skin.
③ After Use
Once the mask has dried completely, remove it immediately—do not leave it on the skin for extended periods. After removal, rinse any residue from the face with lukewarm water, then apply a cold, damp towel to help constrict pores. Finally, apply a moisturizing cream to lock in hydration.
