How to Hydrate and Moisturize Dry Skin with Face Masks
Dry skin refers to a skin type characterized by reduced sebaceous gland secretion and impaired skin barrier function, leading to increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and stratum corneum hydration levels below 10%. Individuals with dry skin require enhanced hydration and moisture retention; specific recommendations are as follows:
① Prior to Use
Before applying a facial mask, individuals with dry skin should thoroughly remove makeup and cleanse the face. Exfoliation may also be performed when necessary to facilitate better absorption of the mask’s active ingredients and prevent pore clogging by dirt and dust.

② During Use
After cleansing the face, apply a warm, damp towel to the face for three minutes, followed by a five-minute gentle massage across all facial areas to enhance absorption and efficacy. For wash-off masks, application during bathing is recommended, as the warm, humid environment promotes deeper penetration of the mask’s active ingredients and improves hydration. Since most masks begin drying after approximately 20 minutes, using them during bathing helps avoid potential stinging or discomfort caused by premature drying on the skin.
③ After Use
Once the mask has dried completely, remove it immediately—do not leave it on the skin for extended periods. After removal, rinse any residue from the face with lukewarm water, then apply a cold, damp towel to soothe and constrict pores. Finally, apply a moisturizing cream to lock in hydration.
