Introduction
Patients with hypertension must adhere to the principle of a light diet in their daily food intake and minimize consumption of high-calorie and high-fat foods. The following points require particular attention: First, limit salt intake. Second, reduce consumption of animal-based foods and sweets—such as fatty meats, organ meats, and processed meats—as doing so helps lower blood pressure and thus aids in both prevention and management of hypertension.

Currently, many people suffer from hypertension, especially elderly individuals with obesity, who are particularly vulnerable to developing advanced-stage disease. Once diagnosed, they can no longer follow their previous dietary habits and must adopt appropriate dietary control. So, what foods should people with hypertension avoid?

Foods to Avoid in Hypertension
Individuals with hypertension must adhere to the principle of a light, low-sodium diet in daily life and minimize intake of high-calorie and high-fat foods. The following points warrant special attention: First, limit sodium (salt) intake. Second, reduce consumption of animal-derived foods and sweets—such as fatty meats, organ meats (e.g., liver, kidney), and processed meats—as these dietary choices help lower blood pressure and thus aid in both prevention and management of hypertension. Therefore, intake of such foods must be significantly curtailed. Third, avoid overeating; aim to eat until only about 70–80% full. Instead, increase consumption of potassium- and calcium-rich foods—including legumes, soy products, dairy, vegetables, and fruits—as these nutrients effectively support blood pressure control.

Hypertension arises from both internal and external factors. Internally, the risk increases with age; additionally, genetic predisposition plays a role—for instance, children of parents with hypertension have a significantly higher incidence than the general population. Externally, unhealthy lifestyle habits are major contributors, including long-term smoking and alcohol consumption, obesity, physical inactivity, and chronic sleep deprivation.

In everyday life, we should pay close attention to our diet and take good care of our bodies by cultivating healthy habits. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
