Normal Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Values

The normal range of central venous pressure is 0.06–0.13 kPa (5–12 cmH₂O) or 0.49–1.18 kPa (50–120 mmH₂O). A central venous pressure below 0.48 kPa indicates inadequate right atrial filling or insufficient blood volume; a central venous pressure greater than 1.48 kPa (15 cmH₂O) suggests cardiac insufficiency.

The measurement site for central venous pressure (CVP) is the intrathoracic segments of the superior and inferior vena cava and the right atrium. CVP measurement is commonly used in the diagnosis of conditions such as hypotension and sepsis, with the measurement site typically located at the intrathoracic portions of the superior and inferior vena cava and the right atrium. Additionally, CVP monitoring can be utilized during surgeries for conditions such as intestinal obstruction and tumors to assess the patient's ventricular contractile function.
