Symptoms of Fracture
A fracture refers to a complete or partial break in the continuity of bone structure. It commonly occurs in children and the elderly, but may also affect adolescents and adults. Most patients sustain a single fracture, while a minority experience multiple fractures. With timely and appropriate management, the majority of patients regain their pre-injury functional capacity; however, a small proportion may develop varying degrees of long-term complications.

Symptoms of Fracture
1. Systemic Manifestations
Shock: Patients with multiple fractures, pelvic fractures, femoral fractures, spinal fractures, or severe open fractures often develop shock due to extensive soft-tissue injury, massive hemorrhage, severe pain, or associated visceral injuries. Significant internal bleeding at the fracture site may cause a mild elevation in body temperature during hematoma absorption; however, this rise typically does not exceed 38°C. In cases of open fracture accompanied by fever, infection should be suspected.
2. Local Manifestations
Local manifestations of fracture include both specific (pathognomonic) signs and other non-specific findings. The three classic pathognomonic signs of fracture are as follows:
(1) Deformity: Displacement of the fractured bone segments alters the limb’s normal contour, most commonly resulting in shortening.
(2) Abnormal mobility: Unnatural movement occurs at sites where motion is normally absent—i.e., across the fracture site.
(3) Crepitus (bone grating): A grating sound or sensation may be perceived when the fractured bone ends rub against each other.
The presence of any one of these three signs is sufficient for clinical diagnosis of fracture. However, absence of all three signs does not rule out fracture—particularly in cases such as impacted or linear (hairline) fractures.

Dietary Precautions Following Fracture
I. Avoid Blind Calcium Supplementation
Calcium supplementation offers minimal benefit for fracture healing and may instead elevate serum calcium levels while lowering serum phosphorus—a potentially harmful effect with no therapeutic advantage.
II. Avoid Excessive Meat Consumption and Bone Broth
During fracture healing, the body primarily requires organic components such as collagen. Bone broth contains predominantly calcium and phosphorus, which neither promote bone regeneration nor support collagen synthesis—in fact, excessive intake may impede organic matrix formation and delay recovery.
III. Avoid Selective or Unbalanced Eating
Fracture patients frequently develop localized edema and ecchymosis. Although the body possesses intrinsic repair mechanisms, optimal recovery depends on adequate intake of diverse nutrients. Therefore, a balanced and varied diet is essential—avoiding dietary bias or restriction.
IV. Avoid Hard-to-Digest Foods
Due to physical immobility and emotional stress following fracture, patients often experience gastrointestinal dysfunction—including indigestion and constipation. Accordingly, easily digestible foods should be prioritized.
V. Avoid Inadequate Fluid Intake
Reducing fluid intake is a common misconception. Insufficient hydration may impair gastrointestinal motility and increase the risk of urolithiasis or other stone-related complications—thereby exacerbating existing health issues.
