Introduction
Fungal infection may manifest as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis). It commonly begins in one foot and, after several weeks or longer, spreads to the other foot. Athlete’s foot typically presents with erythema, papules, vesicles, scaling, and even localized skin erosion. Maintain a healthy diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits; avoid alcohol and spicy foods. Athlete’s foot can be classified into several types, including hyperkeratotic, vesicular, and erosive forms.

Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) poses significant health risks and greatly impairs patients’ daily life and work. Its etiology is complex, the condition tends to recur, and treatment can be challenging. To effectively control disease progression, symptomatic treatment is essential. But is fungal infection synonymous with athlete’s foot?

Is Fungal Infection the Same as Athlete’s Foot?

Fungal infection may indeed manifest as athlete’s foot. It commonly begins in one foot and, after several weeks or longer, spreads to the other foot. Typical symptoms include erythema, papules, vesicles, scaling, and even localized skin erosion. Patients should consume more fresh vegetables and fruits, avoid alcohol, and refrain from spicy foods. Athlete’s foot is classified into several types—including hyperkeratotic, vesicular, and erosive—each requiring a distinct therapeutic approach. The primary goal of treatment is adequate dosage and duration of antifungal therapy.

In fact, treating athlete’s foot is relatively straightforward—the key lies in proper foot care. Since the condition results from fungal infection, it presents with various manifestations such as vesicles, erosion, and scaly hyperkeratosis, thereby permitting classification into subtypes. Topical antifungals—including amorolfine cream and terbinafine hydrochloride cream—are commonly used. If erosion is present, ointments should be avoided; instead, terbinafine hydrochloride solution may be applied topically.

Patients are advised to seek early diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent disease progression. We hope this information proves helpful.
