How to Relieve Tonsil Pain
As society advances, we are increasingly encountering various diseases that affect us—tonsil stones being one such example. So, how can tonsillar pain be alleviated?
How to Alleviate Tonsillar Pain
Tonsillar pain is primarily caused by tonsillitis, which is associated with pathogen infection and decreased immune resistance. In rare cases, it may also be caused by tonsil cancer. Patients are advised to promptly visit a hospital to determine the underlying cause and undergo relevant examinations—such as blood tests—to actively treat the primary condition. Clinically, tonsillar pain can be relieved through oral medication, intravenous (IV) infusion therapy, or surgical intervention.
Oral medications: For mild pain caused by tonsillitis, patients may use Xigua Shuang (Watermelon Frost) spray under medical guidance to alleviate discomfort, or take Xigua Shuang lozenges. If acute tonsillitis results from bacterial infection, anti-inflammatory treatment with oral penicillin or cephalosporins—as prescribed by a physician—is recommended to reduce pain.

If fever accompanies the condition, antipyretic medications should also be taken orally. IV infusion therapy: When tonsillar inflammation and pain are pronounced, and symptoms show no significant improvement after 2–3 days of oral medication—with persistent fever—IV antibiotics may be administered per physician recommendation. Alternatively, tonsillar secretions may be cultured, and antibiotic selection guided by antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Surgical treatment: If recurrent tonsillar pain occurs alongside high fever, tonsillectomy may be advised. If tonsil cancer is confirmed upon examination, postoperative radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy may be required.

In daily life, patients should maintain a light diet, consume more fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid smoking and alcohol, engage in regular physical exercise to boost immunity, and rinse the mouth with warm saline solution. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
