Introduction
Frequent nausea may be caused by acute gastritis resulting from improper diet. It can also occur in conjunction with mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction (due to various causes), gastroparesis, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, gastric or duodenal ulcers, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, or cholelithiasis. Additionally, it may stem from a neurological disorder—such as acute cerebral infarction, acute intracerebral hemorrhage, increased intracranial pressure, Ménière’s syndrome, or otolith dysfunction.

Nausea is a common symptom encountered in daily life; however, numerous diseases can cause it. Without targeted treatment, nausea often cannot be fully alleviated. So, what causes persistent or recurrent nausea?

What Causes Persistent or Recurrent Nausea?

Persistent nausea may result from acute gastritis due to improper diet. It may also accompany various gastrointestinal mechanical obstructions, gastroparesis, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, gastric or duodenal ulcers, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, or cholelithiasis. Additionally, it may stem from neurological disorders—such as acute cerebral infarction, acute intracerebral hemorrhage, increased intracranial pressure, Ménière’s disease, or otolith dysfunction. Poor glycemic control in diabetic patients may lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, manifesting with nausea and vomiting. Furthermore, certain medications or toxic substances can also induce nausea and vomiting.

Nausea may also arise from indigestion leading to food retention. Patients with mild conditions may alleviate symptoms by adjusting dietary and lifestyle habits. Regarding diet, it is recommended to consume easily digestible, soft foods, along with more vegetables and whole grains—such as millet and brown rice. In terms of lifestyle, regular physical activity is encouraged; increasing exercise frequency and intensity helps enhance overall immunity. Under medical guidance, patients may take small doses of digestive aids (e.g., Jianwei Xiaoshi Pian) to effectively relieve symptoms.

Patients are advised to avoid greasy, spicy, or otherwise irritating foods, and instead consume more fruits and vegetables. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
