Introduction
Experiencing diarrhea after eating peaches may result from acute gastroenteritis caused by consuming spoiled or contaminated peaches. Peaches are considered a “cold” food in traditional Chinese medicine; excessive consumption may disrupt the intestinal microbiota, leading to diarrhea. Additionally, peaches are a common allergenic food—ingestion may trigger allergic gastroenteritis and subsequent diarrhea.

Eating peaches and subsequently experiencing diarrhea may be caused by acute gastroenteritis, intestinal dysbiosis, or allergic gastroenteritis.

1. Acute Gastroenteritis

Diarrhea after eating peaches may result from consuming peaches that are no longer fresh or have been contaminated, leading to infection with enteric bacteria such as *Vibrio parahaemolyticus* or *Salmonella*. This infection triggers acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, resulting in acute gastroenteritis. Because acute gastroenteritis has a rapid onset, it commonly causes prominent symptoms including diarrhea and abdominal pain.

2. Intestinal Dysbiosis

Peaches are considered “cooling” in nature according to traditional Chinese medicine; excessive consumption—particularly of chilled or raw peaches—may irritate the intestines and impair intestinal immune function, potentially disrupting the balance of gut microbiota. This imbalance (intestinal dysbiosis) can lead to significant diarrhea, thereby causing diarrhea shortly after peach consumption.

3. Allergic Gastroenteritis

Peaches are a common food allergen. Individuals with compromised immunity or those with an atopic (allergy-prone) constitution may develop hypersensitivity reactions in the digestive tract upon ingestion, resulting in allergic gastroenteritis and subsequent diarrhea—hence the occurrence of diarrhea after eating peaches.
