Is Finger Joint Pain Caused by Rheumatism?

Finger joint pain is not necessarily caused by rheumatic disease. Of course, rheumatic conditions can lead to finger joint pain, especially rheumatoid arthritis. This disease damages the articular cartilage and synovial membrane in the finger joints, resulting in joint pain, swelling, and functional impairment. In advanced stages, deformities of the finger joints may occur. However, in most cases, finger joint pain should be considered as chronic strain. Long-term overuse of the fingers can easily lead to tenosynovitis, localized synovitis, and damage to joint cartilage. Some patients may develop local bone spurs (osteophytes), which can also cause finger joint pain. Additionally, it's important to determine whether there has been any trauma to the finger joints. Injuries can result in local soft tissue damage, intra-articular fractures, or joint dislocations, all of which can cause significant finger joint pain. It is essential to promptly undergo appropriate examinations to identify the underlying cause.

Patients with finger joint pain should avoid eating raw, cold, hard, or spicy foods such as chili peppers, onions, ginger, and garlic. Additionally, patients should avoid overly greasy foods or those high in cholesterol. Organ meats and fatty animal products should be consumed sparingly. It is recommended that patients eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Their diet should primarily consist of light, easily digestible foods such as noodles and millet porridge.

When experiencing symptoms of finger joint pain, patients should not only pay attention to their daily diet but also seek timely medical treatment. We hope this information is helpful to you.
