Introduction
Drinking scalding hot water can injure the tongue, leading to dryness and numbness. In patients with cerebral infarction, impaired swallowing function and muscle paralysis may also cause dryness and numbness of the tongue. Additionally, viral infections or hormonal imbalances can trigger Sjögren’s syndrome (a type of autoimmune disorder characterized by dryness), which may likewise present with these symptoms.

Dryness and numbness of the tongue may be related to factors such as tongue injury, cerebral infarction, or Sjögren's syndrome.

1. Tongue Injury

If the tongue is scalded by drinking excessively hot water or irritated by consuming overly spicy food, resulting in damage, dryness and numbness of the tongue may occur. This condition can improve within a short time through adequate rest and enhanced nutritional intake.

2. Cerebral Infarction

When a patient suffers from cerebral infarction, it may lead to swallowing difficulties, loss of speech function, and muscle paralysis, which can also cause dryness and numbness of the tongue. In such cases, prompt medical evaluation is necessary, and appropriate treatment should be administered under a doctor's guidance.

3. Sjögren's Syndrome

If the body is affected by viral infection or experiences abnormal hormone levels, it may lead to Sjögren's syndrome, which can also result in symptoms such as dryness and numbness of the tongue. Under medical supervision, immunosuppressants such as cyclophosphamide or azathioprine may be used to treat and alleviate symptoms.
