Can you drink hot milk tea when you have diarrhea?
Diarrhea usually indicates an abnormality in intestinal digestive function and can easily lead to reduced digestive capacity. If diarrhea symptoms are mild and not accompanied by other discomforts, drinking hot milk tea is generally acceptable in moderation. However, if diarrhea is severe, hot milk tea should typically be avoided.
1. Can drink hot milk tea
If a patient experiences diarrhea but does not develop obvious watery stools, bloody stools, or pus-filled stools, and has no accompanying symptoms such as bloating, nausea, or vomiting, drinking hot milk tea is generally safe. Since the main component of milk tea is water, it can help replenish fluids lost due to diarrhea. Additionally, milk tea often contains various trace elements that may help restore lost electrolytes, although excessive consumption is not recommended.
2. Should not drink hot milk tea
When diarrhea symptoms are severe—such as intense urgency to defecate, even incontinence, or when accompanied by abdominal pain, fever, and other symptoms—drinking hot milk tea is generally not advised. This is because ingredients in milk tea, such as tea polyphenols, may stimulate the central nervous system and exacerbate gastrointestinal spasms, which could hinder recovery.
