Introduction
Leg numbness while sitting on the bed may be caused by conditions such as sciatic nerve compression, lumbar disc herniation, or lower extremity arterial occlusion. When sitting on the bed, compression of the sciatic nerve can lead to sciatica, resulting in leg numbness. Excessive load on the lower back may cause protrusion of intervertebral discs, which can compress nerves in the leg region and lead to lumbar disc herniation, also causing leg numbness.

Leg numbness while sitting on the bed may be caused by sciatic nerve compression, lumbar disc herniation, lower limb arterial occlusion, or similar conditions. Other underlying causes are also possible. Patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation, complete relevant examinations, clarify the cause, and follow medical instructions for treatment to avoid delaying the condition.

1. Sciatic nerve compression: When sitting on the bed, prolonged pressure on the gluteal muscles can compress the sciatic nerve beneath the piriformis muscle, impairing sensory conduction in the leg and causing numbness. Usually, symptoms resolve completely after moving around for a period of time.

2. Lumbar disc herniation: This is primarily caused by long-term sitting or acute injuries. While sitting on the bed, excessive load on the lower back may exacerbate disc protrusion, which can compress nerves leading to the legs, resulting in leg numbness.

3. Lower limb arterial occlusion: Mainly caused by atherosclerosis of the lower extremity arteries, this condition leads to muscle ischemia and peripheral nerve damage in the limbs, thereby causing leg numbness.
