Introduction
It could be a normal physiological phenomenon, or caused by conditions such as threatened miscarriage or gastroenteritis. At 11 weeks of pregnancy, the uterus enlarges and softens, and the stretching of ligaments may cause occasional brief twinges in the lower abdomen. With a threatened miscarriage, there may be a pricking pain in the lower abdomen, often accompanied by vaginal bleeding. If a woman at 11 weeks' gestation has gastroenteritis, inflammatory irritation can also cause brief episodes of lower abdominal pain.

Generally, occasional mild abdominal pricking pain at 11 weeks of pregnancy may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it could result from conditions such as threatened miscarriage or gastroenteritis. Appropriate management should be based on the underlying cause.

1. Physiological phenomenon: At 11 weeks of gestation, which falls within the early pregnancy stage, the rapid rise in progesterone levels causes pelvic congestion, uterine enlargement and softening, and stretching of ligaments, which may lead to occasional mild abdominal pricking pain. If there are no accompanying symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, this is considered a normal physiological change and usually resolves with adequate rest.

2. Threatened miscarriage: Women experiencing a threatened miscarriage at 11 weeks of pregnancy may feel pricking pain in the lower abdomen, often accompanied by vaginal bleeding. It is advisable to seek prompt medical attention, as low maternal progesterone levels are a common cause. Medications such as dydrogesterone tablets or progesterone soft capsules may be prescribed for fetal protection according to medical advice.

3. Gastroenteritis: Consuming excessive cold, spicy, or irritating foods during week 11 of pregnancy may lead to gastroenteritis. Inflammation from the condition can cause brief episodes of abdominal pricking pain, often accompanied by diarrhea. Treatment under medical guidance may include medications such as berberine or smectite powder. Maintaining dietary safety in daily life is important.
