Introduction
Watermelon is not high in calories, but it contains a relatively high amount of sugar, and excessive consumption may easily lead to obesity. Watermelon is considered a low-calorie food; however, due to its high sugar content, eating too much can result in surplus sugar that the body cannot burn off, which may then be converted into fat and stored in the body, leading to weight gain. Watermelon is also considered cooling in nature, and overconsumption should be avoided as it may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Watermelon has a high water content and is considered a low-calorie food. Eating it can increase satiety and reduce the intake of other foods, so people trying to lose weight can consume it in moderation. However, due to its high sugar content—sugars account for about 80% of its calories—overconsumption of watermelon may result in excess sugar that the body cannot burn off, which can then be converted into fat and stored in the body, potentially leading to obesity over time. Individuals with high blood sugar or high blood lipids should avoid eating too much watermelon.

Watermelon is rich in various nutrients and has effects of clearing heat, promoting urination, quenching thirst, moistening dryness, and relieving summer heat. However, watermelon is considered "cold" in nature, so excessive consumption should be avoided. Eating too much may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, causing abdominal pain and diarrhea. People with weak spleen and stomach functions should eat it sparingly. During summer, it's best to finish a cut watermelon in one sitting, as high temperatures can cause it to spoil quickly and promote bacterial growth. Additionally, consuming excessively chilled watermelon in summer should be avoided, and people with diabetes should limit their intake, as it may easily cause elevated blood sugar levels.
