Can white kidney beans treat constipation?
White kidney beans can promote gastrointestinal motility and aid digestion, but they generally cannot treat constipation. After constipation occurs, patients are advised to manage it through dietary adjustments and medication.
White kidney beans typically contain abundant nutrients such as trace elements, vitamins, protein, and potassium ions. Consuming them may help enhance immune function and improve cardiac blood supply. Additionally, they provide rich vitamins that support normal secretion of digestive glands and gastrointestinal motility, thereby increasing appetite. However, they generally do not have a therapeutic effect on constipation, and constipation cannot usually be improved simply by eating a particular food.
Patients with constipation can appropriately adjust their diet and, under a doctor's guidance, take medications to relieve symptoms. Commonly used drugs include lactulose oral solution and phenolphthalein tablets. If the above methods prove ineffective and conditions such as rectal prolapse occur, it is generally considered refractory constipation, which may require surgical treatment, such as colorectal anastomosis.
