Introduction
An 8-day-old newborn not having a bowel movement can be helped by gentle abdominal massage, performed in a clockwise direction around the navel to stimulate intestinal motility and facilitate gas and stool passage. Alternatively, medications such as Bifidobacterium triple viable tablets or Simo decoction oral liquid may be taken orally under medical guidance to regulate digestion. If symptoms such as poor feeding, vomiting, or fever occur, a rectal enema (e.g., glycerin suppository) may be used to promote bowel evacuation.

If a newborn has not had a bowel movement for eight days, this can be improved through massage, medication, or the use of a laxative such as glycerin suppository.

1. Massage

Gently massage in a clockwise direction around the navel, using appropriate techniques and pressure. This can promote intestinal motility and help the newborn pass gas and stool.

2. Medication

A newborn not passing stool for eight days may also experience bloating or disrupted gut flora. In such cases, medications such as Bifidobacterium triple viable capsules or Bacillus subtilis live bacterial granules should be taken orally under medical guidance to regulate intestinal flora, relieve bloating, and promote defecation. Other medications such as Simo Decoction oral solution or lactulose oral solution may also be used for regulation.

3. Use of Glycerin Suppository

If a newborn has not passed stool for eight days and shows symptoms such as poor feeding, vomiting, or even fever, a glycerin suppository may be used under doctor's guidance to facilitate bowel movement. However, prolonged use should be avoided to prevent dependency, which could negatively affect the development of normal digestive function and the establishment of healthy intestinal flora in the infant.
