Causes of duodenal ulcer
Causes of duodenal ulcers include genetic factors, unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits, medication use, or infection with Helicobacter pylori.
1. Genetic factors
When immediate family members have duodenal ulcers, the risk of developing the condition increases in their offspring.
2. Unhealthy lifestyle and dietary factors
Long-term mental stress, excessive pressure, irregular eating patterns, frequent alcohol consumption, and smoking can all irritate the gastrointestinal tract and lead to duodenal ulcers.
3. Medication factors
Long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, chemotherapy agents, or medications such as sirolimus and clopidogrel may trigger the development of duodenal ulcers.
4. Infection with Helicobacter pylori
Infection with Helicobacter pylori is a primary cause of duodenal ulcers. Once infected, excessive gastric acid secretion or weakened mucosal defense in the duodenum may result, leading to localized inflammatory reactions and the formation of duodenal ulcers.
