What are the symptoms of liver failure?
There are many symptoms of liver failure, including jaundice, gastrointestinal discomfort, and coagulation disorders.
1. Jaundice
During liver failure, cells within the liver may undergo necrosis, causing severe impairment of liver function. This leads to the rapid development of obvious symptoms such as yellowing of the eyes, skin, and urine—typical signs of jaundice.
2. Gastrointestinal discomfort
Liver failure causes varying degrees of liver damage, which may lead to bleeding in the digestive tract. When blood accumulates in the stomach, patients may experience significant abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite—common gastrointestinal symptoms.
3. Coagulation disorders
After liver failure occurs, patients may also develop coagulation dysfunction, resulting in widespread bleeding in the skin, mucous membranes, and internal organs. In severe cases, this can be life-threatening.
Patients with liver failure should avoid eating hard, spicy, irritating, or hot foods. A liquid or semi-liquid diet is recommended, and strict limitations on tobacco and alcohol consumption are advised.
