Introduction
If body temperature remains high at 39°C after taking ibuprofen (Motrin), you can increase fluid intake. Drinking plenty of warm water promotes sweating and helps reduce body temperature. Other methods include physical cooling techniques such as lukewarm sponge baths, hot showers, or ice packs applied to areas like the limbs, armpits, and popliteal fossae. You may also take antipyretic medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen sustained-release tablets. Alternatively, seek medical treatment at a hospital for intramuscular injection or intravenous infusion to reduce fever.

If fever remains uncontrolled after taking Motrin at temperatures above 39°C, it can be managed through increased fluid intake, physical cooling methods, or changing medications.

1. Increased Fluid Intake

Motrin usually starts to take effect about one hour after administration. Patients can drink more fluids—especially warm water—to promote sweating and help lower body temperature.

2. Physical Cooling

If body temperature does not decrease after taking Motrin, physical cooling methods such as sponge baths with lukewarm water, taking a warm bath, or applying ice packs may be used within four hours. Focus on areas like limbs, armpits, and the back of the knees to dissipate heat and reduce fever.

3. Changing Medication

If there is no significant improvement in fever (still at 39°C) within four hours after taking Motrin, patients may switch to other medications under medical guidance, such as acetaminophen tablets or ibuprofen sustained-release tablets. Alternatively, intramuscular injection or intravenous infusion for fever reduction can be administered at a hospital. If symptoms persist without notable improvement, prompt medical evaluation including complete blood count (CBC) is recommended to determine whether the cause is viral or bacterial infection, followed by appropriate symptomatic treatment.
