Why do I feel cold in summer without having a fever?
Feeling cold during summer without a fever may be caused by excessive cooling, heatstroke, or deficiency of qi and blood.
1. Excessive Cooling
Summer temperatures are generally high, and the environment is often hot and humid. People commonly use air conditioning to cool down. However, excessive cooling may cause the surrounding temperature to become too low, leading to a sensation of coldness even without fever. It's advisable to adjust indoor temperatures appropriately and avoid over-cooling to prevent catching a cold due to exposure to cold air.
2. Heatstroke
Heatstroke in summer can also cause a person to feel cold. Staying frequently in tightly enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces may impair the body’s ability to dissipate heat. When excessive heat accumulates in the body, heatstroke may occur, sometimes accompanied by chills without fever. Under a doctor’s guidance, medications such as Shidi Shui (Ten-Drop Water) or Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui (Agastache Qi-Rectifying Liquid) may be taken orally, and environmental cooling measures should be implemented.
3. Deficiency of Qi and Blood
Deficiency of qi and blood may also lead to feeling cold. This is usually due to insufficient qi and blood or anemia. Under medical supervision, patients may take herbal remedies such as Buzhong Yiqi Wan (Spleen-Qi Tonifying Pills) or Lujiao Bushu Granules (Donkey-hide Gelatin Blood-tonifying Granules) for调理 (regulation and nourishment).
The above symptoms may also be caused by wind-cold type common cold or influenza. In such cases, medications like Lianhua Qingwen Capsules or Yin Qiao Jie Du Pian (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Detoxifying Tablets) may be taken orally as directed by a physician.
