What's the reason for always feeling weak and lacking energy?
Generalized fatigue may be caused by factors such as insufficient sleep, anemia, hypothyroidism, diabetes, depression, and other conditions.
1. Insufficient Sleep
Chronic lack of sleep prevents the body and brain from getting adequate rest, leading to symptoms such as physical fatigue and reduced stamina. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and usually resolves on its own once sufficient sleep is restored.
2. Anemia
Anemia reduces the number of red blood cells in the blood, weakening the body's ability to transport oxygen to various tissues. When oxygen supply is inadequate, it may lead to fatigue and a feeling of weakness. It is recommended to take iron supplements under medical guidance, such as ferrous lactate tablets, folic acid and vitamin B12 tablets, or ferrous fumarate suspension, to relieve symptoms.
3. Hypothyroidism
Insufficient production of thyroid hormones can slow down the body's metabolic rate, reduce energy expenditure, and result in symptoms such as decreased stamina, bodily swelling, and sensitivity to cold. It is advisable to undergo treatment with thyroid hormone medications under a doctor’s supervision. Medications such as levothyroxine sodium tablets or thyroid tablets may be prescribed to supplement thyroid hormones and improve symptoms.
4. Diabetes
Elevated blood glucose levels can impair the body's cells from effectively absorbing and utilizing glucose for energy. When glucose fails to enter cells, the body becomes energy-deficient, causing fatigue and weakness, often accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination and excessive thirst. It is recommended to use antidiabetic medications as directed by a physician. Commonly used drugs include metformin hydrochloride sustained-release tablets, acarbose capsules, and repaglinide tablets.
5. Depression
This condition often causes imbalances in serotonin and dopamine levels in the body. When this affects energy metabolism, it may lead to limb weakness, along with symptoms such as dizziness and muscle pain. Under a doctor's advice, antidepressant medications may be used for treatment. Commonly prescribed drugs include sertraline hydrochloride tablets, paroxetine hydrochloride tablets, and clomipramine hydrochloride tablets to manage depression and improve symptoms.
When experiencing persistent fatigue, it is important to ensure adequate rest. If generalized weakness persists over a long period, timely medical evaluation is necessary to identify the underlying cause and initiate appropriate treatment.
