What are the symptoms of atrophic chronic rhinitis?
Dry chronic rhinitis typically presents with symptoms such as itching and burning sensation inside the nasal cavity, dryness in the nasal passages, mucosal erosion, nasal congestion, and nosebleeds.
1. Itching and burning sensation in the nasal cavity
Dry chronic rhinitis is usually caused by prolonged physical or chemical irritation from external factors. This may reduce nasal secretions, leading to symptoms such as nasal itching, sneezing, and a burning sensation.
2. Dryness in the nasal cavity
After the onset of dry chronic rhinitis, decreased nasal secretions cause patients to feel dryness in the nasal passages during breathing. This is commonly an early symptom of the disease.
3. Mucosal erosion in the nasal cavity
Following the development of dry chronic rhinitis, most patients experience erosion of the mucosa in the anterior-inferior region of the nasal septum, which may be accompanied by an unpleasant odor.
4. Nasal congestion
Patients may feel that breathing is not smooth. A small number of patients may develop mild dizziness or headaches due to nasal obstruction and resulting oxygen deficiency.
5. Nosebleeds
After the onset of dry chronic rhinitis, discomfort may lead some patients to frequently pick their noses, causing epistaxis (nosebleeds).
If dry chronic rhinitis is not promptly treated, it may lead to complications such as sinusitis and reduced sense of smell.
