What are the harms of eye stones?
Eye stones can cause various harms such as eye discomfort, vision loss, and even induce tumors.
1. Eye discomfort: Eye stones that do not protrude beyond the conjunctival surface usually cause no symptoms. However, if the eye stone is large and protrudes from the conjunctiva, it may irritate the cornea, leading to symptoms such as a foreign body sensation, itching, stinging pain, and photophobia.
2. Vision loss: Although eye stones are small granules, they gradually grow over time, causing a persistent foreign body sensation in the eye, which may lead to decreased vision. Additionally, frequent eye rubbing due to discomfort may result in corneal erosion, further contributing to vision deterioration and negatively affecting the patient's daily life and work.
3. Tumor induction: If eye stones are not effectively and promptly treated, prolonged irritation may potentially trigger mutations and lead to the development of ocular tumors.
Given the significant risks associated with eye stones, patients should seek timely medical evaluation and treatment once they experience any eye discomfort to avoid disease progression.
