How long after opening can Naphazoline, Methapyrilene, and Vitamin B12 eye drops no longer be used?
Naphazoline-pheniramine eye drops should generally not be used after four weeks of opening.
Naphazoline-pheniramine eye drops are a compound formulation, with main ingredients including chlorpheniramine maleate, naphazoline hydrochloride, and vitamin B12. The fresh solution is a pink, clear liquid with a distinctive odor. Clinically, it is commonly used to relieve discomfort such as eye fatigue, conjunctival congestion, and itchy eyes. Generally, once opened, naphazoline-pheniramine eye drops should be used up within four weeks. After this period, the medication should no longer be used because prolonged exposure after opening may allow significant contamination by bacteria, fungi, or other pathogens, leading to changes in the drug's properties and potentially causing safety risks or adversely affecting recovery from illness.
During use, if patients experience symptoms such as eye pain or redness, they should discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Additionally, if symptoms have not improved after 3–4 consecutive days of use, patients should consult a doctor; switching to another medication may be necessary when indicated.
