Chlortetracycline eye ointment usually refers to chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment. Chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment belongs to the tetracycline class of broad-spectrum antibiotics and is clinically commonly used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, hordeolum (stye), and bacterial blepharitis. Note that medication use should follow medical instructions. The specific method of use is as follows:

1. First, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent infection.

2. Lie flat or slightly tilt your head backward, and look upward toward the ceiling with your eyes.

3. Use your left hand to gently pull down the lower eyelid, then use the other hand to hold the chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment tube and place it about 3 cm above the eye. Squeeze the medication into the conjunctival sac.

4. Gently press the upper eyelid downward to help close the eye and prevent the ointment from spilling out.

5. Then, use a sterilized cotton swab to gently massage the outside of the eye, or move the eyeball around to help distribute the ointment evenly within the conjunctival sac.

6. Rest for 4–5 minutes to allow full absorption of the ointment.

If itching, redness, swelling, burning sensation, or other abnormal reactions occur at the application site during medication use, discontinue use immediately, clean the affected area, and seek medical attention if necessary.
