Introduction
Ear complaints refer to cerumen. After removal, tinnitus may disappear or may persist. When cerumen presses against or irritates the eardrum and causes tinnitus without perforation of the eardrum, tinnitus usually resolves after cerumen removal. Redness or stinging pain inside the ear typically takes about one week to recover. Tinnitus caused by eardrum injury, external ear trauma, excessive mental stress, or other reasons unrelated to cerumen will not resolve after cerumen removal if the underlying condition remains untreated.

Ear knots usually refer to earwax; after removal, tinnitus may or may not disappear.

1. May disappear

If the earwax continually shifts position within the ear canal, pressing against or stimulating the eardrum and causing tinnitus, but without resulting in complications such as a perforated eardrum, symptoms are typically mild. After removing the earwax, tinnitus symptoms can gradually resolve. However, if redness or sharp pain is noticed inside the ear after removal, recovery may take longer—usually around one week.

2. May not disappear

Tinnitus caused by damage to the eardrum, ear trauma, excessive mental stress, or other reasons will generally not resolve after earwax removal unless the underlying condition is properly treated. It is recommended to visit an otolaryngology department at a hospital for a thorough examination to identify the exact cause of tinnitus and receive targeted treatment, which helps promote recovery from tinnitus symptoms.
