What causes a dry cough accompanied by ear pain?
Dry cough accompanied by ear pain may be caused by conditions such as upper respiratory tract infection, tonsillitis, or otitis media. After symptoms appear, patients should seek medical advice and receive treatment targeting the underlying cause.
1. Upper respiratory tract infection: This condition causes the aforementioned symptoms primarily due to bacterial or viral infections leading to pus formation or increased white blood cells. Once these symptoms occur, patients may follow medical advice to use medications directly, such as amoxicillin enteric-coated tablets or clavulanate potassium tablets.
2. Tonsillitis: The above symptoms in patients with tonsillitis are usually caused by infection with group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus. After onset of this disease, patients may follow medical guidance to use sensitive antibiotics directly, such as azithromycin enteric-coated tablets or cefradine tablets.
3. Otitis media: This condition leads to dry cough and ear pain because noticeable pain occurs upon onset, often radiating to other areas. Coughing increases local strain and triggers discomfort. After developing otitis media, patients can consult a doctor about using medications such as acetaminophen tablets or cefuroxime axetil tablets for treatment.
Besides the aforementioned conditions, patients might also have other diseases causing similar symptoms, such as external auditory canal inflammation.
