Introduction
The pubic bone helps stabilize the pelvis and protect the internal organs within the pelvic cavity. Under normal circumstances, the width of the female pubic symphysis is generally 4–6 mm. However, during pregnancy, the width of the pubic symphysis may change. This is primarily due to increased levels of progesterone and relaxin hormones, which induce physiological changes in the pelvic structure to accommodate fetal development. The pubic symphysis may widen by 2–3 mm, facilitating a smoother delivery process.

The standard width of the female pubic symphysis is generally 4–6 mm.

The pubic symphysis is typically located at the upper and lower portions of the broad pelvic bone and consists of superior and inferior rami. It plays a role in stabilizing the pelvis and protecting internal pelvic organs. Under normal circumstances, the width of the female pubic symphysis ranges from 4 to 6 mm. However, during pregnancy, the width of the pubic symphysis may change due to increased levels of progesterone and relaxin hormones, as well as adaptations for fetal development. These hormonal changes can lead to physiological relaxation of the pelvic ligaments and joints, altering the pelvic anatomy and resulting in widening—typically by 2–3 mm—which facilitates easier childbirth.

After childbirth, the postpartum period is critical for pelvic recovery. Poor pelvic recovery may lead to abnormal symptoms such as lower back pain, abdominal pain, and pubic pain, and could even result in urinary incontinence, vaginal laxity, uterine prolapse, and body shape changes. Therefore, early mobilization and appropriate physical exercise after delivery are generally recommended to promote recovery.
