Breast Self-Examination Methods and Precautions
The primary method for female breast self-examination involves using the palmar surface of the fingers for palpation. The specific steps are as follows:
1. First, stand in front of a mirror with shoulders relaxed and arms hanging naturally at your sides. Observe whether the size and shape of both breasts are symmetrical and check if the skin appears normal.
2. Then sit down and use the pads of your fingers to palpate the entire breast in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, systematically covering all areas to avoid missing lesions outside the main site. Avoid pinching or squeezing the breast during examination.
3. If the breasts are sagging, you may support one breast with one hand while using the other hand to perform palpation. Gently squeeze the nipple to check for any bloody discharge and examine the skin for changes such as dimpling or an "orange peel" appearance.
Note: Women should avoid emotional stress, maintain cleanliness of the breast area, and prevent skin damage. If any breast abnormalities occur, it is recommended to seek prompt medical attention to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment under a doctor's guidance.
