Lactation Massage Technique Tutorial for Relieving Breast Engorgement
Breast milk relief and lactation massage techniques can be performed by oneself or with assistance from others. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. The patient should assume a comfortable position, either lying down or sitting.
2. Use a warm or hot towel to wipe and apply heat to the breasts, promoting blood circulation.
3. Locate any hardened areas in the breast and gently knead them outward toward the nipple along the direction of the milk ducts. Continue massaging from the outer area inward toward the nipple, then press behind the areola and push outward and toward the sternum.
4. Finally, stimulate the nipple. Once milk is ejected, allow the baby to suckle, triggering the sucking reflex for more effective milk flow.
Note: Breast engorgement relief may also involve gently pulling, massaging, or pinching the nipple to stimulate the milk ejection reflex. However, massage and duct clearance should be performed under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
