Introduction
Corn (clavus) is mainly caused by prolonged local pressure and friction, leading to thickening of the skin's keratin layer and conical keratin hyperplasia that resembles a corn. Prevention and treatment should be prioritized first. Wear properly sized shoes, use soft insoles, and correct foot deformities. Topical treatments include corn plasters, 30% salicylic acid collodion, or externally applied powdered Fructus Bruceae.

In daily life, many people suffer from a condition known as foot calluses. There are various treatments available for foot calluses—what are they?

Treatments for Foot Calluses

Calluses primarily result from prolonged pressure and friction on a localized area of skin, leading to thickened keratinized tissue forming a cone-shaped keratosis that resembles a callus. Prevention and protection are essential first steps. Wear properly sized shoes, use soft insoles, and correct any foot deformities. Topical treatments such as callus plasters can be applied. A 30% salicylic acid preparation may also be used, or crushed Fructus Bruceae (Wu Dan Zi) can be applied externally. These should be replaced every six hours. Other treatment options include surgical removal of the callus, incision with a sharp blade under local anesthesia, or therapies such as carbon dioxide laser ablation and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy.

This condition is often associated with long-term wearing of high heels, ill-fitting shoes, prolonged walking or standing, and occupational factors. Treatments include topical applications of salicylic acid, acetic acid, crystal cream, or callus cream—taking care to protect the surrounding healthy skin during treatment. Additional options include carbon dioxide laser cauterization or surgical excision. In daily life, proper foot care is important: avoid local friction and pressure, choose appropriate footwear, protect the skin around the callus with adhesive tape or rubber plaster, and avoid soaking in water. Without prompt and proper treatment, infections and other complications may develop.

Foot calluses can significantly affect daily life and cause inconvenience. If you have foot calluses, it's important to promptly adopt appropriate treatment methods. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
