How is a gynecological biopsy performed? Is it painful?
Gynecological biopsy may cause slight pain, but the discomfort is generally within an acceptable range. There are several sites for gynecological biopsies, the most common being cervical biopsy, endometrial biopsy, and vulvar biopsy. The procedure should be performed at a正规 hospital. Taking cervical biopsy as an example, the specific procedure is as follows:
1. The patient lies supine on the examination table with her buttocks near the edge of the table, legs placed in stirrups to maximally expose the perineum.
2. Routine disinfection is performed. The cervix is exposed and held in place using a speculum. Secretions on the cervical surface are then wiped away.
3. The doctor applies a 3% acetic acid-soaked cotton ball to the cervix, which typically causes acetowhite changes. Subsequently, a cotton ball soaked in Lugol's iodine solution is applied to the cervical surface.
4. In areas of the cervix that do not stain with iodine, the doctor uses a biopsy forceps to remove tissue samples from two or three sites, placing them into a container filled with 75% alcohol.
5. Hemostasis is performed on the cervix. After bleeding has stopped, all instruments are removed, and the biopsy specimen is immediately sent to the pathology laboratory.
After a gynecological biopsy, patients should rest adequately, ensure sufficient sleep, and maintain a balanced diet. If significant and persistent symptoms such as heavy bleeding or lower abdominal discomfort and pressure occur after the procedure, prompt medical attention at a hospital is necessary.
