Remedies for solanine poisoning
The main pathological symptoms of solanine poisoning are acute cerebral edema and gastrointestinal symptoms. There is no specific antidote for solanine poisoning, which usually occurs after consuming sprouted or green-skinned potatoes, or improperly prepared potatoes. Detoxification can be achieved through self-induced vomiting, hospital-based gastric lavage, or medication. Taking gastric lavage as an example, this procedure must be performed at a正规 medical facility, and the steps are as follows:
1. The doctor evaluates the environment and confirms the patient's identity, then positions the patient either in a sitting position or lying flat.
2. After connecting the equipment and checking the tubing, turn on the power of the gastric lavage machine and put on gloves.
3. Lubricate the gastric tube and insert it through the mouth to a depth of approximately 55–60 cm. Once correct placement in the stomach is confirmed, connect the gastric tube to the lavage machine. Press the start button to introduce 300–500 ml of lavage fluid per cycle. Repeat the process until the stomach contents are thoroughly washed out, then press the stop button. After lavage is complete, remove the tube and assist the patient with rinsing their mouth and washing their face.
4. Dispose of waste materials properly and document the resuscitation process.
In addition, treatments such as drinking vinegar water or inducing vomiting may also be used. It is recommended to avoid eating spoiled food, especially sprouted potatoes or other members of the nightshade family, as these have a higher risk of causing solanine poisoning.
