Does an unmarried woman have to undergo a transrectal ultrasound to examine her ovaries?
Unmarried women do not necessarily need a transrectal ultrasound to examine their ovaries; other tests can also achieve the purpose of ovarian evaluation.
The ovaries are paired solid organs located within the female pelvic cavity, with a flattened oval shape. They sit in the angle between the origins of the internal and external iliac arteries, with their medial surfaces facing toward the uterus. A rectal (transrectal) ultrasound involves inserting a specialized probe into the patient's anus to examine pelvic organs, including the rectum, anal canal, and ovaries, for any abnormalities. While unmarried women can undergo transrectal ultrasound to assess the ovaries, this method is not the only option. Women—especially those who have not engaged in sexual intercourse—can visit a hospital for alternative examinations such as abdominal medical ultrasound or ultrasound diagnosis of anorectal diseases to obtain clear diagnostic information.
Unmarried women should drink plenty of warm water, maintain a light and balanced diet, ensure adequate nutrition, and avoid overeating. They should also get sufficient rest, avoid excessive fatigue, and maintain good sleep habits.
