Ursodeoxycholic acid capsules for the treatment of gallbladder polyps
Whether ursodeoxycholic acid capsules can treat gallbladder polyps depends on the size of the polyps.
1. Can treat gallbladder polyps
Gallbladder polyps are classified into cholesterol polyps, adenomatous polyps, etc. Most are benign lesions, although a small number may undergo malignant transformation. Most patients do not experience any discomfort after developing the condition, but a minority may have symptoms such as upper abdominal pain and loss of appetite. If the gallbladder polyp is a cholesterol polyp and is relatively small, taking ursodeoxycholic acid capsules may produce certain therapeutic effects. Typically, after taking the medication for 4–6 months, the polyp may gradually shrink or even disappear.
2. Cannot treat gallbladder polyps
If the polyp is an adenomatous gallbladder polyp, drug treatment tends to be ineffective and fails to achieve therapeutic goals. Patients should go to the hospital for evaluation. If the polyp has a large diameter, the possibility of malignancy must be ruled out. In some cases, laparoscopic cholecystectomy may be necessary.
In addition, pathological staining and tissue section examination should be performed after surgery to determine the nature of the gallbladder polyp.
