What is adenovirus infection?
Adenovirus infection is a contagious disease affecting the upper respiratory tract, which can impact both the body and the endocrine system.
Adenovirus is a common cause of respiratory infections, particularly those involving the upper respiratory tract. It may lead to respiratory symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and sore throat, and in more severe cases, chest tightness, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing.
Adenovirus can also cause gastroenteric-type colds, resulting in digestive symptoms including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. A minority of patients may experience eye redness and ocular discomfort. Additionally, adenovirus infection can produce systemic symptoms such as general fatigue and fever.
If fever develops due to adenovirus infection, patients may, under the guidance of a healthcare provider, take antipyretic medications such as acetaminophen tablets, ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, or nimesulide granules. For symptoms of cough and sputum production, patients may be advised by a physician to use expectorant and antitussive drugs, such as ambroxol hydrochloride tablets, compound licorice syrup, or ribavirin tablets.
Patients are advised to maintain healthy daily habits, engage in appropriate physical activity, and strengthen their immune systems.
