Eye turns red after sleeping with pressure on it
Redness of the eye caused by sleeping on it may result from physiological factors or pathological conditions such as conjunctivitis or hypertension. Appropriate management depends on identifying the underlying cause.
I. Physiological Factors
Pressure on the eye during sleep may compress blood vessels and nerves, leading to ocular congestion. It is recommended to adjust sleeping posture or apply local warm compresses.
II. Pathological Factors
1. Conjunctivitis
If redness is due to conjunctivitis, inflammation of the conjunctiva causes congestion. Treatment may include erythromycin eye ointment, chloramphenicol eye drops, or rifampicin eye drops, as prescribed by a physician.
2. Hypertension
Hypertension can lead to vascular hardening, and episodes of熬夜 (staying up late) or severe coughing may cause rupture of subconjunctival capillaries. In such cases, antihypertensive medications should be used under medical guidance to control blood pressure and relieve eye discomfort.
In addition, conditions such as diabetes may also contribute. It is recommended to follow medical advice for proper diagnosis and treatment.
