Introduction
Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator that primarily dilates veins and can also selectively relax coronary arteries. It is commonly available in solution, tablet, and injectable forms. It can be used in conditions such as angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive emergencies, heart failure, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. If patients experience adverse reactions such as vasodilatory headache or palpitations, it is recommended to discontinue use promptly.

1. Angina Pectoris

Nitroglycerin is one of the commonly used medications for treating angina. Angina is chest pain caused by insufficient blood supply to the heart. Nitroglycerin relieves angina symptoms by dilating the coronary arteries and increasing blood flow to the heart muscle.

2. Acute Myocardial Infarction

In the emergency management of acute myocardial infarction, nitroglycerin helps increase blood supply to the myocardium by dilating the coronary arteries, thereby reducing the size of the infarct area and alleviating the condition.

3. Hypertensive Emergency

Nitroglycerin can be used to treat hypertensive emergencies. By dilating veins, it reduces cardiac preload, decreases the workload on the heart, and consequently lowers blood pressure.

4. Heart Failure

Nitroglycerin can be used in the treatment of heart failure. By dilating veins and reducing cardiac preload, it decreases the heart's workload, improves cardiac function, and alleviates symptoms of heart failure.

5. Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Nitroglycerin may also be used to treat idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. This condition is characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure in the pulmonary artery. Nitroglycerin improves pulmonary circulation and relieves symptoms by dilating the pulmonary artery and reducing pulmonary vascular resistance.

If patients experience adverse reactions such as vasodilatory headache, palpitations, dizziness, hypotension, or bradycardia, they should discontinue nitroglycerin use promptly. Additionally, medication should be taken under the guidance of a physician.
