Introduction
Tongue pain during a cold may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin B2 or immune dysfunction leading to oral ulcers. It could also result from pathogens invading the tonsils during a cold, causing acute tonsillitis and affecting the base of the tongue. Additionally, acute bronchitis triggered by infection, allergic factors, or physical and chemical irritation may lead to frequent coughing, which in turn can cause tongue pain.

Tongue pain during a cold may be caused by oral ulcers, acute tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, or other reasons.

1. Oral Ulcers

Oral ulcers may occur during a cold due to deficiency of vitamin B2 in the body or immune system dysfunction.

2. Acute Tonsillitis

During a cold, pathogenic bacteria may invade the tonsils, causing acute inflammation of the tonsils and affecting the base of the tongue, leading to tongue pain.

3. Acute Bronchitis

Acute bronchitis may result from infections, allergic factors, or physical and chemical irritants stimulating the bronchial mucosa. Patients typically develop coughing; frequent coughing may lead to tongue pain.

In addition, tongue pain could also be caused by glossitis. It is recommended to treat based on the underlying cause.
