Is the chance of a malignant tumor in the eye high?
The likelihood of a malignant tumor in the eye is relatively low, but it can still occur.
Ocular tumors can be either benign or malignant. Benign tumors are more common and are typically characterized by slow growth and well-defined borders. Although malignant eye tumors are less frequent, they do occur and include common types such as meibomian gland carcinoma on the eyelid conjunctiva, melanoma in the eyeball, squamous cell carcinoma of the eyelid skin, and retinoblastoma, which is more commonly seen in children. These malignant tumors, especially when poorly differentiated, may be life-threatening.
Any eye discomfort should be promptly evaluated with a comprehensive examination at a hospital. Early diagnosis and treatment based on the specific cause are essential to prevent disease progression and complications that could increase treatment difficulty.
