The harms of chyluria in women
Female chyluria can lead to various health issues such as malnutrition, abnormal urination, and urinary tract infections.
1. Malnutrition
Chyle consists of fat particles. Prolonged chyluria results in the loss of essential nutrients—specifically chylomicrons—depriving the body of necessary nutrition derived from fats. This deficiency may lead to malnutrition, causing patients to become underweight and exhibit poor nutritional status. It is recommended that women maintain a balanced diet and avoid spicy, irritating, and high-fat foods.
2. Abnormal Urination
Patients with chyluria often experience lower back pain. If chylous urine combines with blood clots, renal colic may occur due to irritation caused by these substances. Additionally, if chylous material blocks the urethra, it can lead to difficulty or abnormalities in urination. Regular exercise is advised to strengthen the immune system.
3. Urinary Tract Infections
When lymphatic obstruction caused by filariasis leads to chyluria, failure to treat it promptly may result in urinary tract infections. This can also trigger symptoms such as high fever and chills.
In addition, conditions like pyelonephritis may develop; if left untreated, they can progress to kidney failure or uremia.
