Can Ménière's disease heal on its own?
Meniere's disease usually cannot heal on its own.
Meniere's disease is a condition of unknown cause characterized by endolymphatic hydrops in the inner ear. Currently, there is no specific cure available in clinical practice, and the disease tends to recur, causing symptoms such as vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus. Without treatment, symptoms may gradually subside after a period of time; however, some patients may experience progressively worsening hearing due to delayed treatment. Spontaneous recovery is uncommon, so timely medical intervention is necessary. In severe cases, surgical treatment may be required.
This condition is not immediately life-threatening, but if left untreated, it can lead to sensorineural hearing loss. Especially with recurrent episodes, it may impose psychological stress on patients, significantly affecting their daily life and work.
