How long does it take to recover after lung washing?
Recovery after lung lavage typically takes about one week.
Lung lavage mainly involves using a bronchoscope to access the targeted area through the nose or mouth. Physiological saline is injected through an adjacent channel to effectively remove harmful substances from the lung tissue. This procedure is commonly used for conditions such as lung abscess, pulmonary infections, and pneumoconiosis, especially when excessive pus is produced and cannot be expelled naturally. The procedure allows suctioning of accumulated pus and repeated rinsing. Generally, the lungs recover within approximately one week after lavage.
After undergoing lung lavage, patients should maintain a light diet, avoid spicy or irritating foods, and refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol, as these may irritate the lungs and hinder recovery.
