Introduction
Tonsil cancer is a malignant tumor occurring in the tonsil area. Early symptoms of tonsil cancer are atypical and mainly include a foreign body sensation in the throat, sore throat, lumps in the throat or neck lymph nodes, and bleeding. In addition, early-stage tonsil cancer may cause hoarseness or other discomforts, while in some cases, no symptoms may appear at all. Therefore, it is important to seek timely medical evaluation and differential diagnosis at a hospital.

Tonsil cancer is a malignant tumor occurring in the tonsil area. The early symptoms of tonsil cancer are atypical and mainly include a sensation of a foreign body in the throat, sore throat, and lumps in the throat or neck lymph nodes.

  1. Sensation of a foreign body in the throat

The presence of tonsil cancer or stimulation by cancer cells may cause local edema, leading to a sensation of something stuck in the throat and obstructed swallowing.

  2. Throat pain

In the early stage of tonsil cancer, patients may experience throat pain, usually on one side. As the tumor grows, it compresses surrounding tissues, causing pain. Additionally, cancer cells may secrete certain toxins that stimulate nerve endings, resulting in pain.

  3. Localized lumps

In the early stages of tonsil cancer, some patients may develop noticeable lumps—such as hard masses in the throat area—which in severe cases may form small ulcers and cause pain. If the cancer spreads to cervical lymph nodes, it can also lead to swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

Furthermore, early tonsil cancer may also cause other discomforts such as hoarseness, although some patients may remain asymptomatic. Therefore, it's important to seek timely medical evaluation and proper diagnosis.
