Introduction
Diarrhea refers to loose or watery stools, and fever refers to elevated body temperature. Diarrhea and fever during pregnancy may result from physiological factors or pathological causes. Physiological factors are usually due to indigestion or food accumulation, while pathological causes could include acute gastroenteritis or viral influenza, which can be improved through lifestyle adjustments and medication. In addition, diarrhea and fever in pregnant women might also be associated with ulcerative colitis.

Diarrhea refers to loose or watery stools, and fever means elevated body temperature. Diarrhea and fever during pregnancy may result from physiological factors or pathological conditions. Physiological causes are usually due to indigestion or food accumulation, while pathological causes could include acute gastroenteritis or viral influenza. These conditions can be improved through lifestyle adjustments or medical treatments.

I. Physiological Factors

Diarrhea and fever in pregnant women may occur due to improper diet, such as overeating, which increases the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and leads to indigestion or food stagnation. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can reduce stomach load. Drinking plenty of water helps promote digestion, and engaging in gentle physical activity can alleviate symptoms of food accumulation.

II. Pathological Factors

1. Acute Gastroenteritis

If unclean food is consumed, bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract may occur, irritating the intestinal mucosa and triggering inflammation—resulting in acute gastroenteritis. This condition often causes diarrhea, and the presence of bacteria can affect the body's temperature regulation center, leading to fever. Applying a warm compress to the abdomen and drinking plenty of warm water may help relieve symptoms. If necessary, medications such as smectite powder (Montmorillonite Powder) or Bifidobacterium triple viable capsules may be used under medical supervision.

2. Viral Influenza

Pregnant women with viral flu may also experience fever and diarrhea. If symptoms are mild, adequate rest, increased fluid intake, and consuming vitamin C-rich foods may help alleviate discomfort without requiring specific treatment. For severe flu symptoms, oseltamivir granules may be taken orally under a doctor’s guidance.

In addition, diarrhea and fever during pregnancy might also be caused by ulcerative colitis. A thorough medical evaluation at a hospital is recommended to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate drug therapy based on individual circumstances.
