What causes whole-body shaking at night?
Shaking all over at night may be caused by physiological reasons or pathological conditions, such as epilepsy or neurasthenia.
I. Physiological Causes
If the sleeping environment is excessively cold and the blanket used is too thin during sleep, the body may feel cold, leading to whole-body shivering. This is a normal phenomenon that does not require special treatment. Patients can stay warm by using thicker blankets.
II. Pathological Causes
1. Epilepsy
In patients with epilepsy, abnormal electrical discharges in the brain during seizures can cause abnormal muscle contractions, resulting in symptoms of full-body tremors and convulsions. Treatment may include medications such as oxcarbazepine tablets or carbamazepine tablets, taken as directed by a physician.
2. Neurasthenia
Patients with neurasthenia may experience easy mental excitation. Excitement before sleep can disrupt rest, causing vivid dreams. If frightening scenes occur in dreams, the patient may experience full-body trembling and cold sweats. These symptoms can be improved under medical guidance with medications such as clonazepam, paroxetine tablets, or mecobalamin tablets.
In addition, nerve disorders may also be responsible. During treatment, patients must pay attention to keeping their bodies warm.
