Introduction
People with a cold and sore throat should generally avoid playing sports, as it may worsen the condition. A cold accompanied by throat discomfort is usually caused by exposure to cold or viral infection. Additionally, during oral medication, alcohol should be avoided to prevent disulfiram-like reactions. Light outdoor exercise is acceptable, as it can enhance immunity and resistance, thereby promoting recovery.

It is generally not advisable to play sports such as basketball when experiencing a sore throat due to a cold, as it may worsen the condition.

A sore throat caused by a cold is usually due to exposure to cold or viral infection. During illness, the body's immunity is relatively low, and bacteria may be dormant inside the body. Adequate rest is essential at this time, and playing sports or engaging in strenuous exercise should be avoided. Intense physical activity may cause excessive sweating and further weaken the body, potentially worsening the cold and delaying recovery.

When a sore throat from a cold is mild, symptoms can often be relieved by eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of warm water. If necessary, medication may be taken under a doctor’s guidance, such as Shuanghuanglian Oral Liquid, Pudilan Anti-inflammatory Tablets, or Compound Paracetamol and Amantadine Capsules, which can help alleviate symptoms of cold and sore throat.

In addition, alcohol should be avoided during medication to prevent a disulfiram-like reaction. Light outdoor activities may be appropriate, as they can enhance immunity and resistance, thereby promoting recovery.
